These fat, juicy, delicious vegan hot dogs perfect for your next cookout. This easy recipe uses spices and herbs found in gourmet hot dogs, plus refined coconut oil keeps these vegan sausages juicy and bursting with flavour. High in protein, as well as taste, these vegan hot dogs are sure to satisfy!

Vital Wheat Gluten (AKA Pure Gluten Flour) is NOT the same as regular flour. It’s mostly protein while regular flour is mostly starch. Here’s an example:

Mushroom seasoning really makes a meaty difference to the flavour of these vegan hot dogs. BUT if you really can’t get it, use vegan bouillon powder instead. Bouillon powders are usually more salty though so you may have to adjust the amount of celery salt if you do that.

  1. I have just finished making this recipe and I’m very impressed with the sausages texture. The only thing is the sausage tastes a little wheaty. I’m new to making seitan and I’m not sure how this can be removed??? On my next attempt I will add some sage and thyme to the ingredients and maybe a few spring onions. If I could make a seitan sausage which tastes like a real Cumberland sausage. I will be in sausage heaven.

  2. Hey Mary, I have tried this recipe and the flavors are spot on! However I think I overcooked the sausages and they turned bit dry. Any tricks to fix that?
    Thank you!

  3. I have a name for these. Haute Dogs, pronouncing the h! I’m going to try and make these next week. I also noticed on your last video I watched that I was not subscribed!! Horror of Horrors! I am now a proud new subscriber. 🙂

  4. I was in the library the other day and took a look at a vegan cookbook, there was a recipe for vegan hotdogs, one of the ingredients were vegan sausages from a supermarket…
So yeah, I really appreciate you actually showing how to make the sausages (the essential part of a hotdog), it fascinates and inspires me greatly^^

  5. I can’t get mushroom seasoning here in the UK, but I’ve found an easy recipe for mushroom seasoning on that I’m willing to try. I’m almost sure that this hot dog recipe is worth the effort.

  6. I looked at some Steam Baskets at the Asian store and was confused by the 3 in 1 and how to use it on the pot and quickly ran out of the store ( not really) but I thought of your idea steps

  7. I just made a batch of these, and they are delicious! I didn’t have mushroom seasoning, so instead, I added 1/2 a cup of fresh mushrooms. The texture and taste are divine! This will become a summer staple for me!

  8. That looks SO GOOOOOOOD! The only bad part of this video is that now i am SO hungry. I love your channel, and these hot dogs seem WAY better than barbecued pig assholes. Also, I tried your vegan milk bread and it was amazing.

  9. Hi Mary, I made your vegan hot dogs and they were amazing! They were remarkably like a “real” hot dog and yet in so many ways much better. I cannot thank you enough. This recipe is a keeper. Way to go!

  10. I have to say thank you for restoring my hope in seitan! I tried to make seitan nuggets before and they came out horribly. The whole nugget experience made me not want to make seitan again. Until I saw this recipe and decided to give seitan another shot. I was surprised by how great they came out. It still had a wheaty taste to it so im not sure if that’s normal or if next time I should put more spices in.

  11. Hi Mary. Your website link is not working. I just watched your video called VEGAN HOT DOGS // PAPRIKA SEITAN SAUSAGES. I clicked the link underneath to go look at the written recipe ingredients and the link is not working! I just thought I should let you know. Love your work!
