Noreen’s Kitchen: 15 Bean Soup for a Busy Christmas Week Meal

Greetings! Welcome to Christmas Week! This will be a super busy week and none of us will have time to putter around in the kitchen. We all need to get down to business and get this job done. So while we were spending our time baking cookies and Christmas treats, I decided to just go ahead and prep a nice pot of 15 bean soup in the pressure cooker. Truth be told, I forgot to soak my beans and while you can make this in the slow cooker without soaking them, they do take longer than just regular pintos or red beans because this mixture contains some lower absorbing beans like chick peas and butter beans.

I also used some of my food storage preps such as dehydrated onion, carrot and celery to make this preparation even easier. Putting them under pressure for about 15 minutes made these beans easy to cook over the duration. I love this gadget and would never be without it, it makes my life easier!

  2. Noreen, love your videos…I have one question…why did you simmer the 15 bean soup for an hour? Why not pressure it for another 10-12 minutes instead?

    Thanks for your soup video my friend!

    If you use the pressure cooker on the soup mode for 30-35 minutes then let the pressure drop naturally, your beans do not need to soak at all.

    Just add everything in but brown the onions in some oil first and then add everything else in, and use your elite pressure cooker you love:).

    I make this in my Instant Pot pressure cooker all the time, and my Instant Pot has a slow cook mode too, but slow cooking takes too long, so I prefer to pressure cook the 10 bean soup instead.

    I hope you try making the soup this way as it is really fast and tasty.
