Italian S Cookies by DIANE LOVE TO BAKE


1 cup vegetable shortening, 1 cup granulated sugar, 4 eggs, 1/4 cup milk, 1 1/2 Tablespoon vanilla, 4 cups flour, 2 Tablespoon Baking Powder. Cream shortening sugar, eggs, milk and vanilla. Add dry ingredients till mixed well. Roll a piece of dough about 2 1/2 inches long 1/2 inch in thickness form a letter S with dough on ungreased cookie sheet, Bake at 350 for 10- 12 minutes.Cool cookies on rack. Mix 2 cups powder sugar, 2 1/2- or 3 Tablespoons of water or milk to thickness you want for icing. Dip cookie into icing place on rack till dry.Yields 60 cookies Cookie size baked is 3 1/4 long.

  1. Great job. Tip if you bake a lot. I trained in Italy. I buy half gallon milk (or cream) and I put in a split vannila bean (or 2-3) and keep it in the fridge; the infused milk/cream when used in recipes that use both vannila and milk/cream takes the flavor to a whole new level.

  2. Thanks so much! I just discovered your videos looking for hoagie recipes. My Mom always made S cookies, but without the icing and were a big hit with the family. We also make the Anginetti iced lemon cookies.
