How to make 1980s Nigerian Wedding Cake

This classic Nigerian wedding cake recipe is so versatile. It is from way back in the 1980s and 90s. For I and my brother back then, it was our own little “chocolate cake”. Till date, I still do not like the usual chocolate cake because this cake does it for me.

This year, it will be my Christmas Cake. I also baked it for my daughter during her birthday.

Nigerian food is yummy!

  1. This is my first time hearing of Browning initially I thought this was a chocolate cake because of its color, does the growing give it a flavor or is it just coloring? I really enjoy baking so I look forward to trying your recipe.

  2. Love this!!! Simple, unique…looks like fun making it. I love doing recipes like this because it has meaning, it’s from the heart and the kids can appreciate it more!! 💕😇💗❤️

  3. The coarse “corn flour” is called corn meal, this fine flour you used is corn starch.
Thank you for taking us down memory lane, I wish my parents were still here, I would have loved to make this for them.
This is similar to the fruit cake they use for weddings now, they add syrup for moisture retention which might be a replacement for corn starch.
