My “go to” recipe for holiday cookies, Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, etc., when we cut out sugar cookies with the kiddos. I add a couple of extra ingredients to make an otherwise ordinary cookie, extraordinary!

Here is my video recipe for the sugar cookies:

Here are the ingredients:
1 cup Powdered Sugar
2 T Whole Milk
2 t. Light Corn Syrup
1/8 – 1/4 t Almond Extract or use lemon, vanilla, etc.

This cookie recipe was inspired from a cookie I purchased at a gourmet cookie stand at the mall. I thought it was delicious so immediately attempted to recreate the recipe at home. Much to my surprise, I could not determine the flavor in the icing. I knew the cookie tasted of lemon. I searched on the internet for icing recipes and stumbled on this:

(It was so long ago, I am not sure if this was the original recipe because I hand wrote the ingredients). I added a little lemon to the cookie and delish!
Anyway, I now have the PERFECT sugar cookie! YUM! I hope you enjoy it as much as we have over the past 15 – 20 years. 🙂

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I wanted an easy way to ice cookies for this season. The channels I came across were using Royal Icing with a piping bag. Not for me. I gave it one more try after lunch and whamo, I found your Channel. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  2. Found your recipe online last night in a frantic search for a royal icing for sugar cookies I made for my grandson’s 1st grade class. I have to say it was soooo easy to make and worked out wonderfully. Thanks!!!!

  3. rainbow gardens: I want to use this icing to put on heart shaped cookies on stick for a wedding. I want to do white icing and then the initials of bride and groom and then put in a bag with ribbon. for the initials what do you recommend? I don’t want the initials to come off on the bags. Any recommendations?
