  1. Lucky Alexandra.  My dogs have been vegan most of their lives, and our 12 year old Sheltie is very healthy, and so is the 6 year old Chihuahua.   I feed them a mixture of Halo wet and dry dog food, and also fresh food that we eat, such as mushrooms, peanuts and nuts, lentils and beans, tofu, whole grains, vegetables and fruit. Nothing with onions, garlic, or chocolate tho.  The Sheltie is crazy about oranges right now.   Dogs, like people and some other animals, are omnivores and can eat a vegan diet and thrive.  Recent work has shown that dogs have a special enzyme for carbs like people have.  This is a great video, and recipe!

  2. I’m not going to say not to feed your dogs vegan food, they are much more capable of surviving off of them than cats, but I do urge people watching this to be careful! If you’re planning on feeding your dog a vegan diet please please do research! Be aware that a lot of dog food brands that advertise their lack of animal products may not be fulfilling your pet’s needs and be aware of your dog’s reactions and allergies! My own Rocky is allergic to wheat and that made it a large challenge to find him healthy vegetarian options. Talk to a vet too! Above everything else, keep your animals safe!!

  4. Previously I had a dog who was allergic to wheat so I tend to avoid it now. I make my dogs’ treats with oats, peanut butter and blueberries. They love them!
