Aval upma (Poha upma) is one of favourite dish in south india. This dish you can have for breakfast or dinner, also it’s very easy to make and it’s very easy to digest. Do you know about the health benefits of Aval (poha)? Well, Aval is a breakfast dish made of beaten rice.

Considering it as your breakfast option is beneficial for two reasons. Firstly, it is tasty and secondly, it is nutritious too. In fact, preparing it is very easy. In this Aval upma you can try many variations of it by adding several vegetables of your choice.

Aval (Poha) health benefits are it is easily digestible, rich in iron, rich in carbohydrates and low in gluten level. Ingredients for Aval (Poha) upma:-

Ingredients

Aval (Poha) – 400gm
Mustard – 1 tspn
Curry leaves – little
Chenna dal – 2 tspn
Ginger – 1 inch piece
Onion – 1No. medium size
Potato – 1 small no.
Carrot – 1 No.
Grated coconut – little
Green chilli – 1No.
Lemon – 1no.
Turmeric powder – 1tspn
Salt as required
Oil as required

Preparation

Heat the pan and add the oil let the oil heated up add mustard when it splutters, add green chilli then curryleaves. Add chenna dal, finely chopped ginger and saute chopped onion until it turns light brown colour.

Then potato and carrot let it get cooked after these add turmeric powder and salt as required. Now wash the Aval (Poha) with water and drain to remove excess water. Then add Aval (Poha) and mix well, close with lid and leave for maximum a minute in sim flame. Switch off the flame and squeeze the lemon. Finally garnish with grated coconut and if you want the dish to be rich you can add fried cashew nut as well in this stage and its only optional. Nice Aval upma (Poha upma) is ready. Aval upma can go with any chutney.
